An "Awkward" Recruitment Story

There was once a PNM named Grayson and her favorite TV show was Awkward. She decided to name the sororities at her college after the characters from the show. Grayson was all prepared for recruitment. She had Recommendations to all the chapters. She had shopped for new clothes and practiced wearing her new shoes to avoid blisters. Grayson was what you might refer to as a mega-legacy and as luck would have it her legacy house was on her campus. The chapters were as follows:

LACEY
LISSA
SADIE
RICKY SCHWARTZ
TAMARA
JAKE
MATTY
JENNA HAMILTON

Grayson was not aware of the reputations on campus, she just wanted to be part of a sisterhood. Her sister and mother assumed that she would most likely end up in her legacy house. So much so, that Grayson's mother bought her a stuffed (owl, dolphin, turtle, squirrel) symbol of her sorority several months before recruitment began. Grayson's roommate was also going through recruitment, as were several girls down the hall. There were a few hometown girls going through recruitment too. The first day they visited all the chapters.

The college Grayson attended is in the lower 48. Technically it is south of something.

wait this is too funny, a friend of mine who plays Lissa on the show is in a house at the University of Southern California! I wonder if Lissa is the codename for her house!

First Impressions.....

LACEY- Grayson liked this house. All the girls she spoke with seemed nice.


LISSA- There were several hometown girls in this chapter that Grayson knew. She enjoyed talking to her rushers. She saw a hometown girl slip into a secret door, but was not able to speak with her.


SADIE- This group came across as very sporty to Grayson. The rusher never asked Grayson any questions. Grayson asked several questions, but it was very "Awkward". The girls in this house seems to be very involved on campus.


RICKY SCHWARTZ- Grayson did not get a good vibe from this chapter. Her sister had a longtime friend here. During the video the friend appeared on the screen with her brother. Grayson mentioned to her rusher that she knew the girl and brother and that they had all grown up together. The Rusher didn't seem to care.


TAMARA- She really enjoyed her time here, but was iffy about the overall chapter. She wanted to return to give them another look.


JAKE- This was her first party of the day and she was a little overwhelmed. She really liked JAKE. She was bumped six times, so she met a cross section of ladies.


MATTY- Grayson loved MATTY. She could totally see herself here. Definitely her favorite after Day 1.


JENNA HAMILTON- Grayson was worn out because this was her final party of the day. Luckily for her this was her legacy house and she was excited to meet them at last. She met the President and several others. When she told them about herself, they could never seem to relate. She told them that her mother and sister loved being Jenna Hamiltons. The whole situation was very strange. It was like she was a round peg and they were square holes. Her mother instructed her prior to recruitment that she was never to rank the Jenna Hamiltons last. If they wanted to drop Grayson then so be it.


Grayson had to rank 2 chapters, she could return the next day to a max of 6. Her rankings were:


MATTY
JAKE
LISSA
LACEY
TAMARA
JENNA HAMILTON
RICKY SCHWARTZ X
SADIE x

Day 2

The maximum number of invites was 6. Grayson was very tired from being up late with some noisy dorm neighbors. Her schedule for the day had the following:


LACEY
LISSA
JAKE
MATTY
JENNA HAMILTON


Her bottom 2 were gone, but so was TAMARA. She was glad to have a little more down time today.


LACEY- Grayson was picked up by the same girl as the day before. The conversation was strained because they had very little to discuss. Grayson tried to find out as much about their philanthropy as possible. She was thinking of ranking LACEY last because if she got this same girl the next day, they would most likely just stare at each other.


LISSA- The girl rushing Grayson here must have gone to the SADIE school of recruitment. She never asked Grayson any questions. Grayson tried to ask as much about the philanthropy, but the conversation was very one sided. She saw hometown girls, but did not speak to them. It appeared to her that they were not speaking to anyone. She loved the physical house, but figured this would be her last visit since the conversation was "Awkward."


JAKE- Grayson loved JAKE. They had moved into the favorite spot. She got along with everyone to whom she spoke.


MATTY- Grayson enjoyed her time here. She met the President. Everyone told her she needed to met a girl named Betty. Apparently Betty was just like her. She thought why don't they just introduce me to her. Grayson was not aware of the orchestrated dance that was recruitment bumping.


JENNA HAMILTON- This was her last party again. She began to realize that the more desirable chapters had fewer girls at each party. Her previous parties had been full. JENNA HAMILTON had very few girls, they must be a sought after house. They showed her photo albums. She noticed they were not doing that with anyone else. She kind of got that "Sidney, Jugdish, Mohammet, Lonny" vibe from Animal House from them. She was familiar with their activities because her sister's chapter did some of the same things. She asked them many questions to try and get to know them on a personal level. They never answered her. They just continued to pepper her with questions. After 2 visits, she had no idea of any ones hometown, major or any other personal information. She was feeling absolutely no connection to the JENNA HAMILTONs.
However, she told her mother and sister if she ended up here, she would make it work.


They could return to a max of 4 for Day 3. She ranked them as follows:

LISSA
JENNA HAMILTON
LACEY x

Perhaps.

I just don't like it much when moms try to make choices that their kids should be making. Grayson's aware of her mom's affiliation and would probably give Jenna Hamilton extra consideration anyway. But if it's not a good fit for Grayson, it'd be a shame for her to know that but not feel like she could do anything about it.

This was what I was told when I went through recruitment as a safety measure strategy for preference round.
