Legacy Question (:

I'll be a sophomore this coming fall at Purdue. I have a couple of family members (aunts and cousins) that were in a few different sororities during their college years (not at Purdue, but at other schools). I know this doesn't really qualify me as a legacy, but is it something I should still mention during formal recruitment this fall? Like, if one of my aunts was in sorority XYZ should I bring that up when rushing at XYZ during recruitment? I know it technically doesn't make me a legacy, but should I still mention it?

Some sororities, like Sigma Kappa, do consider nieces to be legacies!

Send a message via Yahoo to AZ-AlphaXi
Alpha Xi Delta also considers nieces as legacies. If nothing else, be sure to ask your relative to send a recommendation to her chapter.

I concur with the answers already posted....make sure it is on your resume and that your relatives write a recommendation letter for alerting the Purdue chapters of your legacy status (like others have said, each sorority defines legacy differently). Keep in mind that I am aware of legacies that have been dropped at Purdue despite their legacy status, so it will depend on how strict national enforces legacy policies and the tradition of the local chapter. But it does happen. Hopefully you have met sorority women during your freshman year that can vouch for you during rush.
