Will the Sorority want me?

I'm am interested in joining a NHPC sorority, but I have a few concerns that I thought could be answered here. One concern is that I was in college but I left to join the military and after 3+ years I will be returning as a full time student. I also will be working, but I will only pledge if I know I have the time. I'm 22 so I'll older than the other women who will decide to pledge. I also am a mother and I wasn't sure how that would effect anything. Would I not be wanted because I'm older or because they'll feel like I can't completely dedicate my time to the sorority? Another major concern is that I'm not sure if I'm what they are looking for. I know most of the stereotypes with sororities aren't true or they have strayed away from the cookie cutter female. But SO many people who I know have always told me that they see me as one thing but it is kind of the opposite of what I want to be. I didn't pledge when I was in college the first time around because I wanted to actually study the sororities and not join based on what people thought I should be. I really researched this sorority and I love the mission statement and the things that the women of this sorority have done. I really can not see myself pledging any other thing. I also learned that my aunt is a member of this sorority and I really look up to her. I would really like to speak with young girls with low self esteem and girls who have lived a tough life because those are some of the things that I dealt with as a child. (But I digress) When it comes to the look, I think I have it, but I'm not prissy or sassy. (I'm sure you all know what sorority I'm referring to now) I was never the popular type. I know that we would all like to think that the sorority members wouldn't choose who they want based off of stereotypes, but sometimes it is actually a popularity contest. Any words of wisdom, experienced, or just hard honest truth? Thanks

You aren't going to get any answers on here sadly. You just need to talk to the chapter and see if they are going to be willing to accept you.

I applaud you for wanting to work with young girls who have self esteem issues. Young girls need positive role models who are willing to mentor them. As far as the sorority issue, can you not speak with your aunt and see if she can give you some guidance?

Thanks. I appreciate everyone's responses. I'm not going to pledge until I feel like I am 100% ready, but when I am I'm just gonna be confident and hope for the best lol

You'll never know unless you try. I joined my chapter at 21, and there's another girl in my chapter that joined when she was 23.

Excuse me: you are in an NPC sorority, and this is NPHC which is entirely different.
