Yes boy, I need a ............
Ohhhhh boy here I go............
(cracking knuckles)
To the uneducated workers at Auto Zone and Advance Auto.....
When I walk in your store and ask you for a pickup coil for a 89 chevy 4x4, dont stand there and look at me like im a idiot. Now i realize your in highschool, and you have fetal alcohol syndrome and you know absoulutely nothing about a internal combustion engine, but heres the thing. Im a mechanical engineer. When I walk in and need a something that you have absolutely no idea what it is, like a set of points for a 72 chevy, or a slave cylinder of a cummins diesel, you get your zit faced ass on that little computer and start plugging and chucking what I tell you. Dont give that "uh, ah, uh well...." if your to imcompentent to type, the get the hell out of my way and I will do it, then I will send the bill for my hourly charge to your manager and let him cut me a check (trust me boy, its a hell of a spite more that 5.50 a hour)
Thank you, and sorrry i didnt need something simple like oil. Some of us dont take the time to get ripped off by mechanics.

Sorry, this was supposed to go into the thread about what you would like to tell a store owner, but I have been drinking all day.
Please disregard.

Wait, theres more I want to say about this since im on a rant and talking to myself.
When I walk in a auto store, Im usually covered in grease. That means only one thing. Ive probably been drinking. I tend not to turn a wrench without highlife neer by (you guys have seen the Highlife commercials.........) Is it really a good idea not to get me the parts that I need? Lets use some deductive logic here champ.
Ok im done now.

Yo billymac, people that work at those types of places without any knowledge whatsoever of car parts should not work there, lol. What would happen if someone walked in there and said: "Umm I need and engine part"

No, Billy dont drive after one beer. I go and knock on random neighbors doors till someone agrees. Nah, people are always here so a ride aint a thing.
1 40 and im still goin. I feel like Tom.
Yes, its a requirement that you know absolutely nothing about a engine to work at a parts dealer. Oh the irony.

That would be like me working at an auto store...I didn't know what a spark plug was until I was 17. If you don't know what the stuff the store stocks is for, then you don't need to be working there. I would ring the manager if I were you!

Have you ever heard the saying' "you get what you pay for"? Do you really expect someone making $5.50 to give you expert advice on anything? Mabye the local Automart should hire college grads, put them through extensive training classes and pay them 6 figure salaries. Of coures if they did that, they would be forced to charge you the same price as the overpriced mechanics that you were trying to avoid in the first place.

at least you arent a girl...and when you call the auto store and ask them what time they close and they say "well for you sugar, we are open until 9pm"...or being called "honey" at auto zone. wait my favorite is when i get my oil changed, and they try to tack on a 400 dollar break job. i might be as un-mechanical as they come, but i know how much breaks cost...and i know lots of male friends who can do it and not charge ffor labor....so on you!

Being a girl can also be a very good thing when you walk into an auto parts store. Sure, you have these 60-year-old mechanics slobbering on you. But, a few years ago, I noticed a chip in the paint on my car. I needed a tube of touch up paint. My father called the Ford dealership to ask them to hold the paint for me (it was the last one they had left). The guy quoted my dad some outrageous price. A couple of hours later I went to the dealership to pick it up. The slobbering mechanic gave me the paint for free! Being a girl has so many benefits.

Do you have a hat that says "Im a Mechanical Engineer" on it?? A friend of mine used to say the "Im an engineer" line to anyone that would listen. Saying that doesnt mean anything...
Everyone has to start learning somewhere. No one is born with 100% knowledge of automobiles, except me.

Yeah it's a min wage job, but for your own sense of self respect I would hope you would try to find out more about the job you are performing. Or at least know how to find things on a computer.
I mean, if I go into Sam Goody and ask for Crosby, Stills and Nash, I don't want the clerk to say "is that a law firm?" Or think (and this really happened) that Keith Sweat is a country singer. **shudder**

Oh my gosh, that reminds me of the time I was in college and put self serve gas in my car and I realized when I went to pay that I had put in about $5.00 too much gas. I went into the mini mart to explain what had happened and the guy behind the counter, couldn't have been a day under 75 years old, told me not to worry because I was eligible for the "pretty girl discount"! lol I thought that was pretty sweet though, 'cause I really didn't have the money to pay!
