Alternative Spring Break

Do any of you have ASB at your schools? Has anyone participated? I am participating for the third year this year, and it is awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone.

It's a program of the YMCA where you spend your spring break doing volunteer work. Illinois sends about twenty groups to different locations in the country to do different issues. I know a lot of schools do it.

Freshman year, I went to Philly and worked with Americorps.

Sophomore year, I went to Detroit and worked with Focus:HOPE.

Two of my best college experiences!

Its not really an ABS, but I did Habitat for Humanity Spring Break in 1999. We were working on a house in a poor area of St. Petersburg in Florida. We worked all through the day in heat and rain, stayed in a church with 8 ppl to a room, and ate simple meals But it was one of the best experiences of my life. I have also done the Spring Break in Padre and am going to Clearwater this year, despite being out of school this semester.
