Sigma Chi at Bradley -- Chop Down a Tree, Pay for It

The holiday season tree-stealing tradition (so to speak) continues, apparently. This year we lead off with this report about a "prank" by Sigma Chi at Bradley:

http://www.pjstar.com/blogs/theinfor...harges-for-now

So the chapter gets to pay for "replacing" the 25 - 30 foot tree, gets to deal with the publicity, and for what?

If this was to celebrate Christmas, I hasten to remind GCers that neither Matthew nor Luke mentions theft in their (very different) nativity stories.

I can't imagine what they were thinking.

I wouldn't think a white pine would be hugely expensive; when they're pretty young, they take off in height so I'm picturing a tree that they had to cut several feet of trunk off of. Still!

We live in a college town and this is why we don't have any expensive and hard-to-grow Christmas trees out front.

Tree stealing is a tradition? Huh. Anyway, if I was the property owner and someone had cut down my tree, I'd be pissed. And for reasons having nothing to do with money. I just think it's sad to cut down a tree like that, and I'd be really upset if someone felt they could come onto my property and cut down my tree.

I would be mad too! I find it interesting that they apparently dragged the tree to their house leaving a trail of pine needles. What were they thinking?

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any amount of punishment that will fix stupid.
Seriously, these guys were able to get into college? Their parents must be so proud.
