Want to start a Zeta Tau Alpha at FIU (Florida International University)
Hi I just transferred to FIU (Florida International University)due to a family emergency and would love to start a Zeta Tau Alpha chapter. FIU doesn't have many sororities compared to other schools and I think they would really benefit by having ZTA. I was wondering if there are anymore ZTA transfers from other schools at FIU? If you are please let me know you could really help me out. Also, if potentially anyone in UM's (University of Miami) chapter would want to assist me since ya'll are settled and are close by. I know it is a really long process in order to start a chapter at a university but if I have the help I would totally do it. Thanks! I miss my sisters and I having sisters

You can't start a ZTA chapter at your school. Please review the other threads where you have posted this message for a more detailed explanation. Not only is it a long process, but it is a process by which the Campus Panhellenic initiates and decides. I know it is disappointing, but you will not be able to be involved with the college Panhellenic at your new school. Consider other campus activities and also look into getting involved with the Miami-area ZTA alumnae association.

I'm still going to go try and talk to Campus Panhellenic and see but thank you for the information. I also posted this just to see if there happened to have been anymore transferred ZTA's at FIU

FIU isn't open for expansion and it's quite a process there to do so.

Another way of handling your transfer is to start a Stray Greeks club. You certainly aren't the only transfer, and maybe there are other interested.

Here is my answer concerning NPC expansion from another thread:
hi alina, the first thing that has to happen is that FIU panhellenic feels that they need another sorority. when that happens they then contact the NPC(the organization over the 26 NPC sororities) and tell them that FIU is open for expansion. Who knows when that will happen.
The sororities that are interested in starting a colony there would send information packets to FIU panhellenic, which they would look at, and then they would vote on the sororities they would like to make a presentation on campus. those sororities would either accept or decline and then at the appointed time, they would come.
After all the sororities give their presentations(usually on different days) the panhellenic would vote and the sorority with the most votes would receive an invitation to start a colony, and the sorority will either accept or decline.
There really is nothing that you can do, except join an alumnae chapter and make frequent visits to Gainesville to see your chapter sisters. I just found out that Zeta day is going to be in Palm Beach next year (usually in February or March). That is something to look forward to.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say FIU, based strictly on the numbers posted in the 2012/13 thread, might be ready for expansion. Start asking around, and if there are 1 or 2 chapters that are significantly below total, your best bet is to support anyone who might be interested in going Greek joining THEM. There won't be any expansion if membership is really lop-sided. And I would feel free to approach Panhel about expansion, but there is one thing you need to be VERY clear about. They may say, wow, that's a great idea! We really should expand! And then choose Gamma Phi (or whoever that is not ZTA). And there is nothing you can do about that - it's not your decision.
And by the way, 7 chapters is not an insignificant Greek system. I'm afraid if you are comparing this Greek system to FSU, there's no way you're going to get through this without being disappointed. Even if you get your way.
I love the idea of a Wayward Greeks club. I bet you could really have fun with that.

When I was in Dubai, I loved meeting women who were Greek. For no reason I can explain, the DGs outnumbered everyone else by like 3 to 1. I did finally meet a sister WAY younger, as in just out of college, and that was so much fun! It turns out, the bond of Panhellenic will do in a pinch.
And mea culpa on the use of wayward. I had to actually look it up to determine the difference, since I was ready to fight about it

You crack me up! Guess you are too young to know about homes for wayward girls, eh?
