Arrow U&CNG of the Week!

~*LOL*~ As if we didn't use enough acronyms on this site!

Discussion in this forum is mainly with respect to newer greek organizations, most of which are growing from single to multiple chapters. However, other than the U&CNGs mentioned by their own members on greekchat, we don't know of too many.

I'd like to profile at least one U&CNG on this thread each week. Please feel free to mention one yourself!

Let's try and furnish some basic information - letters, full name (if more than the letters), date/place of founding, number of chapters, their mission/goals/focus. Additionally, what's unique about this greek organazition? Why did they choose their organization versus an already well-established GLO?

Thanks, and happy posting!

Hi my name is Vida and me and another young women by the name Charlene have started our own GLO because we feel that we can do something to make a change here on my college campus because there aren't no GLO's on this campus that i would consider being a part of. Although we are not recognized on capus YET we will be someday although GLO's were banned about 24 years ago.
We thought of starting one on November 4,1999 and it came to light with the Alpha Chapter on December 4, 1999. We are now pledging the Beta chapter who will be crossing soon and we will continue to go and make strong and powerfull things happen here on this campus that nobody else had the balls to star. Although there is another fraternity and sorority here on campus who were started at another school, i don't agree with anything that they stand for so we started our own and its going really well.

Hey Beta Sigma Zeta

Way to go! Congrats on starting a new GLO! I know exactly what you are going through. I am a founder of the Epsilon chapter of my sorority. Starting a new org is a lot of work but it is also very rewarding too. I wish you and your sisters all the luck in the world. Tell us, where is your sorority located? How many members do you have thus far? What is the history/background of your org? Do you guys have a website established yet? Tell us all about it!!!

In Greek Unity,
Tracey

Delta Gamma Pi Multi-Cultural sorority here
Sorry I know this was posted awhile back, but I am just coming across it, so please forgive me
Anyway, founded in 1998, in western MD,chapters 6 or 7 but will be offical 10 this may. Mission /purpose to spread diversity , happiness, and honor among colleges and community's nation wide.To stand alone in a crowd and not be afraid to be different.
We are unique, because theres not many multi-cultural groups, (much love to the ones that are out there though) we are a social and service org. We do our own thing, and hold our own in facing the other groups, and no matter how people hate on new and local greeks, we show love to all, cause thats true greek love and unity.
I personally pick this group over another GLO, because they have no set stereotypes, we are diverse unlike many other groups, and they just seemed where I belong

Let's get this thread active...I like to learn about new greek organizations and check back to see how they grow - somewhat of a selfish interest, since my GLO is growing itself. I think it's nice to remain educated about the changing/growing face of greekdom. As another greekchatter pointed out - smaller/younger organizations can be thought of as weak or unimportant (against larger, longer established GLOs)....but be sure to watch out when those "beneath" you start falling, it could be your end as well...

...I think the opposite can be true as well, we are enhanced and strengthend as greeks as groups of people band together according to the greek model. So here's some new and/or not as well known greeks to watch.

Who knows? They may be a lone chapter that remains a local or grow into a huge national. They may be small but around for the past 100 years, or small and just starting new. Whatever their future and past, it's worth taking a look at who they are now.

Feel free to add your own GLO, or one that you've heard of. I'll try and add one every few days or so.

Best wishes!

Delta Kappa Delta

...thanks DGPhoney!

And for the first U&CN GLO profile, we have Delta Kappa Delta Sorority.

Founded October 1, 1999 at Texas A&M University.

From the website:
Delta Kappa Delta was formed on October 1, 1999. We pride ourselves on being the first sorority based on the Indian culture at Texas A&M University. Our main purpose is to serve the community, both locally and globally, through various service events.

Of course, I must admit my bias - I am interested in anything that Asian Indians do, considering my own heritage - and as far as I know, Delta Kappa Delta is the first sorority organized by and for Asian Indian American women. But what really caught my attention is their motto:

The Delta Kappa Delta Motto
"I slept and dreamt that life was joy,
I awoke and saw that life was service,
I acted, and behold, service was joy."
-Rabindranth Tagore

Tagore is one of my favorite bards - and I hope to see Delta Kappa Delta live by their motto and flourish. Best wishes, ladies!

Bring 'em on, greekchatters!

Kappa Phi Theta at RIT

Kappa Phi Theta Fraternity bears the distinction of being the only fraternity founded at RIT. They are also the only local fraternity at the Rochester Institute of Technology .

From their web page:

"The purpose of this organization is to provide educational, social, intellectual leadership and cultural enhancement for its members. Kappa Phi Theta provides opportunities for brotherhood and fellowship while encouraging political, cultural and scholastic achievements."

Kappa Phi Theta's emphasis is on promoting confidence and leadership especially among deaf individuals:

"Kappa Phi Theta remains a local fraternity for three reasons:
  • maintain our "Deaf Culture" identity;
    maintain our status as capable Deaf leaders;
    control our destiny and autonomy."

Best wishes to the gentleman of Kappa Phi Theta!

This will be of interest to all as I started a local that affiliated with LXA.
