Fell Short

Last year I wrote and said I wanted to be a Chi-O. A lot of ChiO's wrote and gave me great advice. I got a email a couple weeks ago asking me how it went with chi omega so I wanted to write and tell you all that I rushed in the fall at Eastern Kentucky. I went to Chi O pref night but didn't get a bid. They were my first choice and Pi Beta Phi was number two. Well pi phi gave me a bid but I didn't take it. Pi Phi is a great sorority but I wanted to go Chi Omega. I am not mad at Chi Omega just a little sad.

I am terribly sorry that you did not get your first choice. It's a tough process to pick out of a group of FANTASTIC girls which would fit in best and where. It's too bad you didn't give Pi Phi a try! Sometimes we don't give enough credit to houses that might work best for us. I know a lot of girls who have gone through Recruitment and been completely satisfied with their second choice. Hell...at some Universities you're lucky if you get your top 3 (my mom got her 3rd choice)!
I encourage you to go through Recruitment again and perhaps keep an open mind. It is so tough and I wish I had all the right words to make you feel better, but I don't. Just know that you are wonderful...letters or not!

The fact that you attended Chi O's pref party means that those girls definately saw something special in you. I'm quite certain that on Bid day there were some Chi O's who were really hoping you'd be joining them. (I've seen this happen!) Unfortunately, we can't give bids to everyone that we'd like to. There's several girls in my chapter who went through rush and wanted Chi O but didn't get a bid, they rushed the next year and got a bid. (We knew how much these girls wanted us!) I'm happy to say that one of them is now an officer. So if you have the opportunity, I'd encourage you to go through next year. Otherwise, as Hootie said, you are still wonderful!

Heather-
I'm also sorry it did not work out. Just please know that when we choose the final women for the two pref parties- those are THE women we want so very badly to be our sisters. Unfortunately- numbers and quota win over what the heart wants.

I understand Spring Recruitment begins January 22nd - do you feel like trying again? Now that you have been thru it once- you might be able to go through and see things that you did not see/feel before.

Please keep in touch and let us know how things go. I checked out what sororities are at that campus and there are so many great ones there- Delta Zeta - woo hoo!! Alpha Glamour Delta Women (thats a compliment on your beauty ladies!, Kappa - top top top! and AOPi (a fav of Hootie's and mine) - and seeing how Pi Phi and XO already thought the world enough of you to invite you to pref...... I'm surprised you don't have that ole recruitment form and $20.00 bucks to Panhel already! Get going girl!

Love Sue

Heather-
I do not want to get any hopes up or mislead you but just FYI- I contacted the chapter and they are accepting girls for the Spring.

I'd hate to see a sorority lose out on a neat person like yourself. I hope you'll try it again.

Sue

Ladies, may I say a word on your forum?

When I was in college, there was a girl who was determined to be a Chi O. She went through formal rush 3 times and finally made it! I mean, this is Auburn rush we're talking about--it's really rough!

I remember, though, in the meantime she got involved in tons of activities and made her resume look really good. So Heather, if you want that bid, start working!

Just a reminder, though, Heather is bound to Pi Beta Phi for one calendar year. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but it's better now than later.

I believe if you sign a pref card and decline a bid from one of the sororities you listed, you can't rush for a calendar year.

Pi phi told me that I was bound to them for one year. I am still thinking about rushing in the fall though. I will be attending the University of Kentucky next year as a sophmore. But, I have been told that it's a lot harder than EKU to get in a sorority. So If anyone knows about Chi-Omega at UK please write me.

Heather,

Were you planning on transferring to UK next year originally?

Please remember that individual chapters are different at each school. I would hate to see you transfer to UK and be disappointed that the Chi O chapter has different qualities than those that attracted you at EKU.

I would also hate to see you miss out on the Greek experience, because you think Chi Omega is the only sorority for you. If it was that particular chapter that you liked so much, I could understand, but it sounds to me like you are Chi Omega or nothing else. I think Chi Omega is a wonderful sorority internationally, but I also think that the ladies in the individual chapters make-up the chapter.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get your wish!!!

Heather,

I am a Chi Omega t the University of Louisville. I know how it is to feel like you didn't "get in" like you wanted to, but keep in mind some things:

If you Prefed chi o, they saw something great in you.
It also depends on how many girls that they can take, and perhaps when you went thru rush, there were tons of great girls to look at. It can be extremely hard sometimes.

This summer @ UofL, we had so many great girls go thru rush, and our quota was @ 22. It was so hard to pick from all of the great girls!

I know that it is hard, but go back thru and show them that you are ready and willing!!!!

If you want to contact me, my e-mail address is jordan.osborne@worldnet.att.net.

Good Luck!

Chi O Love and Mine,
Jordan
