numbers dont add up?

I read posts about large sororities that have almost 200 members and 100 pledges. If a chapter is getting 100 pledges a semester wouldn't they have way more than 200 members? Are the pledges all seniors? Do they all graduate or go inactive after 2 semesters?

My fraternity uaually gets about 10-12 pledges a semester and we usually have around 50 members. I would guestimate that most of our pledges are freshman or sophmores and they are usually active for about 5 semesters.

I dont think the numbers add up. Whats the deal?

The more people you have you are going to have a higher turn over rate.

My chapter currently has only about 40 active members..Yesterday @ our Panhellenic meeting they raised membership to 65 members for each sorority on campus... My chapter is trying to figure out how we're going to meet it!! Just thought I'd share =)

my local only has 38 members we generally pledge at least 20 a year. We are right up there with one sorority. The other 2 on campus have between 60-80 and generally pledge about 30-40 a year i think.

I think the biggest sororities (those 200 member ones) are at big state schools. And they lose a LOT of girls between pledging and graduation. A few just decide during pledging it's not right for them, since pledging is held even before classes begin. But many more either end up leaving school altogether (or transferring) or cutting back on activities to make grades. Some of my friends in our alum group talk about how with a pledge class of 30, maybe 10 would graduate.

skip101,

They don't pledge 100 girls every semester...with large rushes like that, there is only one formal rush and one pledge class a year. And there are much larger amounts of depledging, disaffiliating and transferring than there are up here. Make more sense?
