poll about people, the time of year and breakups

Do any of you think that right now a lot of people seem to be breaking up? And if so, do any of you think its the time of year that has anything to do with it?

In the past month I've known 14 couples, personally, that have broken up and ended their realtionships. Some were 1 yr realtionships, 2yrs , 3 yrs and one was even 4 1/2 years. As for me, I've been thinking about breaking up with my GF because of a bunch of bullshit lately. I'm not sure if its just that time of year where people are stressed out cause of finals, the weather, politics with the presidential race or what.....but its something. Any ideas?

I've noticed a TON of people calling it quits lately - but I think when you're at the age most of us GCers are at, this is a really stressful time of year with finals and all that jazz.

I have to chime in and agree, this time of year generally does seem prone to breakups. I have no idea as to WHY I am like this, but I personally can not STAND having a boyfriend during the summer. Why I don't know? Maybe just b/c I view summer as a time for freedom and relaxation and having a boyfriend doesn't fit in with that. I had a guy that I was starting to get serious with at the start of last summer and like two days before the 4th of July I had to peace out b/c I was going crazy. I felt awful, b/c I really liked the guy I just can't date anyone in the summer. I'm weird, I know.

Almost every single one of my breakups has taken place in April or near it. My first boyfriend and I broke up in April. My second boyfriend and I broke up in March, got back together in April, and were on and off until the next March. With my most recent ex, we broke up in December but we didn't really fully start to process the breakup until March/April.

And yeah, I know a bunch of other people who are having issues too.

I think part of it has to do with the whole spring cleaning vibe -- you just want to rid your life of all the extraneous junk in it.

I've always said that I only have boyfriends in the winter, but I didn't think other people were the same way... I thought I was just weird. Maybe it's the lack of clothing or something, but I have a tendency to want to be single during the summer. Plus I can go out more over the summer because there's no homework, so I meet more random people.

I was just talking about this with my friends at the gym tonight! It seems like couples always breakup in the spring time! I think maybe it is because the legs and breasts start reappearing in short skirts and halters and minds turn to summer flings, or maybe because people are stressed with school - I don't know but I TOTALLY agree!

Anyway, I saw statistics that said that most couples breakup in the winter (I think it said 28%) and the least in the spring (13% or so). But, regardless, my relationships always seem to end in April or May.

So much for the discovery channel theory on love being in the air in the springtime. Apparently not everyone is having sex like bunnies after a long winter.

My last breakup was in March/April. But on the flip side of being a student and worrying about finals and whatnot, I noticed that when people reach their senior year at school they seem to start dating more 2-3 before graduation. Dunno if that has something to do with the thoughts running through your head about what you want to do with your life and where you had pictured yourself when you thought of graduating college. It was always suprising in the spring when I would see these senior couples and I would just be baffled.

It is a well documented fact , that guys dump girls during warm weather. Their minds turn to visions of scantily clad women merrily bouncing across sandy beaches, a cooler full of Bud and a volleyball net somewhere in the vicinity.

It's the American male's dream!

I remember this time last year, a lot of couples were breaking up. In fact, other than a handful, every couple I knew broke up right around graduation. I guess a lot of people either realize:

1. The relationship isn't going any farther, it was just for "fun," and it's time to move on.

2. Grad school and jobs have resulted in an impending long-distance relationship, which a lot of people don't want to do.

3. Problems that didn't seem so bad in college seem much worse in the real world.

My bust-ups tended to happen at the beginning of the school year, not the end. Perhaps they were summer flings that ran their course?
