Have you used the IntelliScanner before?

Hey jerks,

Has anybody used an IntelliScanner before? It's basically a barcode scanner for home libraries (books, CDs, DVDs) but can also be used for wine collections and your other assets. You can scan existing barcodes, or you can use labels they provide.

I have an extensive home library and I become increasingly paranoid about insurance issues, so I will probably purchase this in the next few weeks to begin cataloging my crap. I am aiming for the IntelliScanner Mini, which seems to be the only portable one.

Have any of you all used something like this before? I'd love your alternate suggestions or any reviews of this product if you've used it.

(Also, I can import my books into GoodReads, which I just joined this week but am quite addicted to already.)

I bet there's an app for that and no need fpr a separate piece of equipment.

If my phone can scan my FiberOne bar and know it has 140cals, 4.5g fat and 9g fiber, I can't imagine it couldn't do wine and books for the purpose of cataloging.

I have nothing helpful to contribute except to say that's a pretty expensive machine that does what a smartphone app can do for free or cheap. However, if your collection is exceptionally large, I can completely understand wanting to have a dedicated tool to corral it.

ETA: There are a few apps in the Android market (I looked there because I have one). The nicest one seems to use Google Books for cataloging purposes.

I looked into barcode scanning apps for the Blackberry and I didn't like them. It honestly needs to be a laser scanner for it to be efficient enough for me.

I ordered the IntelliScanner Mini and it's on the way. I will let you all know how I like it.

I can see why you'd want that for a large collection. The barcode scanning with phones takes a picture of the barcode and then searches for information so it would be more time consuming.
