Post greek statistics

Hello all,

I'm looking for a source of info concerning the percentage of college students that are currently members of greek organizations in the US.

Anyone got any ideas.

I've tried the conference orgs, the national councils, and the dept. of higher ed. No luck.

thanks in advance,
mike

Hi,

That number may not exist. The percentage varies so much from campus to campus that it is probably nearly impossible to come up with a single number.

If anyone has heard of a generic number, my guess is that it is more of a guess than fact.

Best regards,

DeltAlum

You might try a copy of the Bairds Manual. It is more or less a dictionary on Greek Life in the US and Canada (dont wanna forget the Canadians). It lists info on the colleges in the country and natl and local orgs. It might take some time for you to do the research, but it depends how interested you are in the info. The only downside, the last edition of the Manual was printed about 11, years ago, so I dont know how "to date" the info will be. Better than a kick in the teeth I guess.

Billy,

I would love it if you're right, but that seems like a very high number to me these days. I hope you're correct.

Can you share where you got the number?

Thanks,

DeltAlum

Cool

Delt Alum,

I hope I'm right too. I pulled that one out of ass. But don't worry, I got 1280 on the SATs by doing the same thing. So its probably one of those things I heard some where and now comes up.

Billy,

Now that's funny. I wish all "spokespersons" or whatever we see in the media would be that honest.

That's very likely where they got their answers, too. (Not from yours, but theirs)

And they probably didn't do nearly as well on the SAT.

DeltAlum,
Glad you liked it. That probably is close though, cuz some schools have around 15%-20% and some schools are like around 50% I forget which was that high, but the tour guide (who could have been wrong) was like "its about half, so either join or don't, whatever, no big deal." Now, I realize that "half" could only mean 50% if you chose to belive in logic, but i'm not going to preach my religion to anyone.

Billy.
