This is what I put in the bumped Delta forum thread last night:

James Byrd, Jr.'s killer was executed this evening.

Whenever I ask people about this execution, they respond with a discussion of the other execution that happened last night.

Because this man was found guilty and executed with no debate whereas the other execution was being debated and protested?

Pretty much. Fewer questions of guilt v. innocence, even the nature of his crime. Harder to argue against putting this Lawrence Brewer to death than Troy Davis, I suppose.

The photo of James Byrd's sisters in today's Dallas Morning News tugs at the heartstrings.

I hope that the family takes some measure of comfort, however small, at the State of Texas carrying out justice on behalf of this poor innocent man. It wasn't swift, but it was sure.
