Is there anything I should be starting already?

Hi :] So I'm pretty new here and brand new with posting so I'm not totally sure that this is the correct place to be posting etc, but I just have a simple question about recruitment.

I only just finished my junior year in high school so I do not know where I'll be going to college yet but all of the schools I'm applying to are competitive when it comes to recruitment (Southeast, Southwest) I have a set list that won't be changing so I know which sororities are at all of the schools, but getting to the point...is there anything I should be doing already to prepare? I just want to be able to stay on top of things so any advice would be great! Thanks :]

Figure out where you're going to college first, then worry about the rest.

If any other GCers want to provide info about recritment, recs, etc., then go for it. But on your end, theres nothing you need to do right now except to determine the college or university you'll be attending.

Btw.. If your username is referring to the Boston Bruins, I completely approve

Make sure you keep your grades up! If you are in any student organizations, consider running for leadership positions in them. If you aren't in any, join some! Also think about doing volunteer work during the summer and getting involved in the greater community. And make sure to have fun and enjoy your last year of high school!

Since you don't know where you are going yet, make a list of all 26 NPCs. Start asking if people you know are in an NPC sorority, and make a note of it. That way, if you do go to a school with a competitive recruitment, you already know who you can ask for recs. It is never to early to network and find sorority alumnae/actives.

Ask:
teachers
coaches/activity sponsors
school staff
older friends
siblings' friends/friends' siblings
parents' friends/friends' parents
coworkers/bosses
women from your place of worship if applicable

Note that:
Where you find one sorority alumna, she probably knows of others.
Men won't be sorority alumnae, but they might know someone who is!
Many NPCs do allow collegians to write recs, but some only allow alumnae to write them.

co-sign on the leadership postions. One org with major leadership is better than 20 "sign up on the clip board to join" groups.

Sometimes leadership doesn't have to be through a campus org.. it can be through volunteer work, through your place of worship, your work, etc. So make a list of all the areas where you demonstrate organization, leadership etc, and start the framework for your resume. For instance, I wrote a rec for a young woman who had started a week long soccer camp for inner city kids. She and her best friend did all the organizing, leg-work, fundraising, coaching, recruiting other coaches, basically everything! Very, very impressive. The kicker? She didn't even have this on her resume, because she thought the resume was limited to school extra-curriculars. Therefore, think of ways that you can excel this year, whether through school groups or not, and start working on your resume.

VP also gave some great info for starting your master list of potential rec writers. The earlier you get them your info, the more appreciative they will be!

While there are regions of the country where this would be too early to think about recruitment, I do think that your timeline is 100% on track if you will be going to a school with a competitive recruitment. Good luck!

Thank you so much everyone! I come from New England and sororities aren't a super huge thing here, and no one in my family has been in a sorority before which is why I thought I should ask around on here to make sure I don't fall behind on anything so thank you all I'll start checking to see who was in sororities. This year I'm also going to be a cheerleading captain and a member of SADD and hopefully the president of Support Our Troops (Which I'm trying hard to start this year!) So I really appreciate all of this.
