Undergrad and Alumni gap
Ok, so I just joined an alumni chapter of the greatest fraternity on the planet (you guessed it Kappa Alpha Psi). I know it has been dialouged about b4, but somebody please explain to me why alumni and undergraduates don't get along. I came into this thing loving my fraternity brothers only to find undergraduates hating on me because I did not pledge undergrad.

Can you describe the situations in which you find yourself interacting with undergrads?

yo ionno bout this...someting bout this dont seem right to me. if you came in grad, then you should already know why. i mean, i crossed grad chp, and i KNEW from jump that some undergrads wouldnt show me love cuz i aint come thru undergrad. i mean, you got to do you, and not worry bout what the undergrads think of you, cuz in the long run, the undergrads rely on the grad chapters anyway.

No, this definitely isn't just a frat thing but I find it very surprising that you didn't already know that some undergrads wouldn't accept you right away, especially if you're young (which I'm assuming you are). If you were older, they probably wouldn't care. Yes, there are definitely undergrads who feel the way they choose to feel in all the NPHC orgs given our history of pledging vs. MIP but this is certainly not the case with all undergrad chapters. One big mistake that young neos of alumnae chapters make is in trying to party and socialize with the undergrads because they see themselves as closer to their age. Doing this can definitely get your feelings hurt depending on the feelings in the chapter. My advice is to concentrate on building strong relationships with the brothers in your alumnae chapter and don't worry so much about the undergrads right now. If you demonstrate excellence in your alumnae chapter and show that you are on top of things, they'll have no choice but to respect you for what you bring to the organization as opposed to how you came in.

I have several friends that are a part of Kappa Alpha Psi. I have heard them talk numerous times on this. I think they feel many join the frat later to possibly avoid the lengthy pledgeship and what it entails. (I think many also question if people just want the letters) I am sure you have an idea what being a pledge was like for many of your brothers, so maybe you can get a sense of why they feel this way?
I know a few athletes (football) that did not pledge and wanted too, but it was just too hard due to their responsibilities. I can understand that, but it was also looked upon as taking the easy way out.
You just have to rise above it. You have to demonstrate all the reasons why you wanted to be there in the first and establish a name for yourself while improving your fraternity. In time, this will all seem so silly and you will be a solid example for others to follow. You will also gain respect from the young and old alike. Best of Luck!

yo i think there is a misconception about grad chapter intake as well. a good amount of undergrads think that just because one came in thru grad, they're straight up paper, when alot of the times, thats just not the case. also pplz do forget, there's quite a few undergrad chapters that aint exactly MADE either...
the point of the matter shouldnt be how you came in, but what you're doin after you got in. Are you an asset to the org, or is the org an asset to you?

I wanted to pledge Kapps Alpha Psi, but I couldn't pledge undergrad because when I was a freshman at Texas College back in 2004-05 the Kappa's were on probation. I left that school because they hesitated on giving me finanical aid "Black Schools". Now I'm at a school that don't have Kappa's and I'm in my senior year. I just want to be respected by everyone once I enter Alumni. I wish I could've got that FULL exprience..

My advice is to read this thread but to focus on successfully completing your senior year and planning your future. If you are privileged to join the ranks of Kappa Alpha Psi at the alumni level, you can worry about those other things later, if at all.
Lastly, and with all due respect, re-read your first post to find the grammar and spelling errors. If you can find them, you can do better next time. If you cannot find them, you have some work to do before you graduate.
Good luck to you.
