Fork and Screen theaters

Do you have one in your city and if you do,do you like it?
I was talking to my friend in San Francisco this morning and was shocked to find they don't have Fork and Screen theaters there. She said she thought specifically that she believed it to be a space issue since the city has none. I just assumed since Kansas City has one there would be one in most major cities. After going to my first show, I decided I won't see movies any other way. Its definitely worth the price in my book.

Never heard of Fork and Screen. Is that a chain, or does it just mean any theater that serves meals? If the latter, yes we have one, though it never has first-run movies. It can be fun, but usually I prefer a regular theater.

Yes, it is a branch of AMC theaters located right in the multiplex. They have first run movies, and dinner/dessert/ drinks /concessions. You have to 18 or be accompanied by an adult. They also have Cinema Suites which is 21 and over. Tickets for F & S are $15 plus food and Cinema Suites are the same price as the IMAX at $20.The seats are roomier and more comfortable and your neighbor isn't sitting on your lap. The noise level is much lower.I just find it a much more enjoyable experience. In fact tomorrow I will be sipping my breakfast mimosa while watching Harry. Can't wait!

We don't have Fork & Screen, but we have similar venues: Studio Movie Grill and Movie Tavern. Both show first-run movies and have several food and drink options.

I didn't know that they had been corporatized by AMC, but the Alamo Drafthouse in Texas does that. The food is really good!

The only thing I can think of in San Francisco was the Red Vic where they didn't serve meals last I heard, but they have couches and you get popcorn in a bowl. Part of the issue in San Francisco is that every neighborhood used to have a theatre, and they closed left and right as more multiplex theatres were built. Some were demolished and others have been retooled. I loved as a teen we could see any movie we wanted because it was playing at some theatre just a bus ride away with good food in the neighborhood. A lot of the theatres were very ornate in design and architecture, and some are historic landmarks and have festivals or show independent films.

If the multiplex boom hadn't come in the 1990s we'd probably have independent theatres with food. Frankly San Francisco is full of foodies and a lot of people don't do a lot of chain type restaurants so I can see why AMC would have issues separate from real estate. They have thirty screens within a mile of each other and more just across the city line in the suburbs. If there was an independent restaurant with a theatre and not an AMC one, perhaps it would be popular.

My favorite theatre with food is in Anchorage, the Bear's Tooth. It is a movie theatre with food for your seats, a cafe, a restaurant, and they make their own beer. They have a second restaurant, mostly pizza, called the Moose's Tooth and you can't beat $3.50 even though the beer is expensive. They also have the best ice cream ever, from Fairbanks, which saves a six hour drive. It is also used as a concert venue which is nice because you can sit and eat nachos.

We have those types of theatres here in Seattle, but they're separate theatres - not inside an AMC. We have Big Picture, which I think is a local chain, and Cinebarre, which I believe is a national chain.

don't have that chain, but we do have a theater like that. medium cokes are $5, but you can choose your seat and buy your tickets on line and print them at home. we have not eaten there, but lots of people do.

we love the huge leather seats in the theater. they remind us of viewing a movie in someones private media room at their home.

We have sections of the Loew's theater where you can eat and drink adult beverages. Since we have such ridiculous open container laws in these parts, people got crazy excited when it first came here. It is a little more expensive than regular tickets though.

We don't have anything like that around here, but I've been to a Studio Movie Grill in Houston and I loved it.

Cobb Theaters offers Cinebistro out my way. And we had a theater from Muvico that may or may not now be a Cinemark that served food in the balcony. Cinebistro is amazing. They have a bar and restaurant outside and will also serve you your drinks and food inside the theater. Big and comfy seats which you can pick out yourself online or in the theater. There is nothing like being a little buzzed when the lights go down.

I think it's probably one of my favorite ways to treat myself. It's verrah verrah expensive.

We have a theatre Uptown that has a restaurant inside. Tickets are $12 and you get to pick your seats (which are HUGE). A beer is $5 (pint), and last time I got a pizza for $10.

If I'm going to a popular movie on opening weekend, this is the only way I will go.
