Composite photos: ok for online?

This may be a silly question, but when we get our personal composite photos, is it ok to scan them and post them on our own facebooks/myspaces/etc? Or are they secret and something that should only be kept in a frame on the wall of our houses? My pledge class sisters and I have been debating this and I thought I would ask here. Sorry if it seems silly.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween (if you celebrate it) and are looking forward to Thanksgiving!

You should probably ask your president or pledge trainer or whoever is responsible for ordering the photos. The answer could depend on what the terms of your contract are with the photographer as well as chapter tradition/culture.

Yes, ask your New Member officer. Whether it matters in regards to the chapter can only be answered by an active member of the chapter, but in many cases you aren't supposed to reproduce the photos (like your graduation photos...well, any time you use a photo service/professional photographer) without permission. That will depend on the composite company used.

As a Kappa, and the webmaster for our site while I was an undergrad, you should NOT post these online without first blurring out or removing the names. It is against Kappa's policies regarding online content to list member names. This has nothing to do with secrecy in the ritual sense, but more to protect members. Remember the guy that stalked the CMU chapter of Kappa? Yeah, it's to protect against people like him.

The Kappa Kappa Gamma web site and internet guidelines for chapters states:
Web sites should not list the names of chapter members or any of their contact information on the public side [of your chapter's website]. This protects the identity of all members of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Therefore, I would advise against posting them to Facebook/MySpace/whatever.

^^^ She was talking about Facebook, though. I'd say ask CC about it. I think it would be fine, but again, I don't know the copyright/campus culture issues.
