OK State Recruitment

A friend of a friend has a daughter who will be going through the recruitment process at Oklahoma State. The father lives a 1,000 miles away in the north east, so he cannot be there for any celebrations or needed solace.

He was wants to know if rushing a sorority at OK State is a competitive as the recruitment process at some of the southern universities (he used to live in Baton Rouge and Gainesville, so he understands the competitive nature of rushing in the Deep South).

His daughter did assemble recommendations for each and every sorority on campus. However, she hasn't lived in her town for too long, so her mother suspects that her recommendations will be boilerplate.

He is hoping that his daughter will keep some perspective on Greek Life

Oklahoma State's recruitment is fairly competitive. However, I would not describe it as anywhere near as competitive as LSU. I’m not as familiar with the University of Florida, so I cannot speak to that.

If she has a recommendation for each of the eleven (11) chapters, she should be fine as far as that is concerned. I wouldn’t worry too much about them being boilerplate as chapters often receive recommendations on a standard form from area Panhellenics. Being out-of-state should not hurt her either, although it sounds like she may have recently moved to Oklahoma. She should succeed or fail based on her qualifications, grades, and her interactions during recruitment.

As far as her father not being nearby, there are several shops that offer the ability to preorder gifts and flowers at different price points. They will deliver them on bid day to the chapter house (they get bid lists early). The ones I know of that offer this are Causley’s, Little Shop of Flowers, and Colonial Florist. The campus Panhellenic may be able to direct him to more.
