What are you running 2K on? You might not have enough RAM to handle it. You need at least 96mb, preferably 128mb.

Also, have you gotten the Windows update? Try getting the most recent service pack for it. When I put 2K on my machine initially it was buggy as hell, but after getting all the service packs and updates it works great.

Xp is more stable than any other windows, but there isn't many new features to it. I had a friend buy the final version last week and it is nothing to shout about

eh, i don't think it's that simple, but pretty much. 2000 is built on the NT engine, and is supposed to be ridiculously stable - my buddy leaves his computer on for weeks w/out reset, no problems at all.

XP is supposed to be a hybrid - people I talk to love it, but I don't have much first-hand knowledge.

If you're using 2000 server, you're not really going to do well - the workstation would probably be better for most of us, but once you get it up it should be stable as all hell . . .

Just to pipe in - I work at the helpdesk at my company. If your Windows 2000 machine is crashing there is something seriously wrong because that OS is supposed to be super stable. Like jnrgrl said, check the RAM you've got and look into the Service Pack upgrades. I really don't think that a different operating system is the answer to your problems.
