Masons/Greeks Cannot be Christians??
Hey everybody! I know this is only my third post on GC, but as I was doing some research I stumbled upon a web diary.
The young woman whom the diary belongs to states, there is no way to be Greek or be a Mason and be a Christian. She then goes on to speak about how these organizations ask you to pledge your life and loyalty to them which in turn is the same thing that God asks of us. She has claims of having researched Masonry and has found that certain elements and symbols that the Masons use are in fact linked to satanic worship. She claims that although most of the organizations are centered around Christian principles, its just a hoax. Now I will not post the link to this page as she seems to have gotten hold to a ritual book of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and is using passages from it as examples to furthur prove her point. I know this information is sacred so to any of the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha if you would like the link to the page, please PM me and I will share that with you (maybe someone could do something about it). So my question to everyone, Greeks are you a devout Christian and if so does being in a GLO conflict with your Christian values?? and Non Greeks, what are your views? As a Christian would you or anyone you know have issues with your becoming a member of a GLO??

That is one misguided young lady.
Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Exactly. This has been discussed several times in the past.
Most of these people are just trying to get a rise out of folks, anyway.
ETA: How is this AKA related?

If you "stumble" onto something, true or not, I would refrain from posting anything ANYWHERE. There is such a thing as respect.

These ideas are nothing new.
Believe what you will.
Everyone is entitled to their own interpretations.
Perception is often not reality.
Faith and religion are personal (meaning that another's interpretation should not be forced upon others).
GLO rituals should be kept in context (only the members know what the words/symbols truly mean, as it pertains to their organizations).
The end.

There are umpteen other threads about this in multiple forums across the boards, with all of the discussion of this matter that you could possibly want.
Second, how 1981, will you be able to identity which of the many trolls that might pm you are actually members of my sorority? As someone else said, if you think the information is esoteric and you respect the organization, the best move is not to pass it along.
Finally, as rhoyaltempest said, you have to do your own research, reach your own conclusions, and proceed how you will.
This is a membership question, of sorts, and shouldn't be entertained any further by my sorors.

I don't think this thread needs be continued as it has been discussed several times. However, for a paper this year in my church history class (and also for my Master's thesis) I'm working on the relationship between specifically Catholics and fraternal orders (the Masons taking pride of place among them).
Despite many advances in our relationship over the years Catholic Christians are still prohibited from joining the masons or associated organizations. However, to the best of my ability and research (it takes a long time to find things when all the documents are in Latin) I could find no instance of a GLO being prohibited by the Catholic Church. A good canon lawyer might dispute this but it seems an unnecessary point.
However, this only applies to one faith tradition and not to all Christians so they may have other rules.

Once again Duly Noted!
I do apologize If I offended anyone with the topic or its content. I was doing research and happend to stumble upon it and thought that it was an interesting topic. The words of the young lady do not reflect me or my views nor was I looking for anyone to help persuade a point of view. I did howver do a search and scrolled through about 50 or 60 of the 258 pages of threads (should have gone further huh? lol ) and hadnt seen anything particularly asking the question so I proceeded. To answer the question as to how I would have identified a member of the organization, I know in the POW it urges each member to put her information there, had I gotten any PM's I planned to of course browse through. However your reponses have been duly noted and I do again apologize for over stepping boundaries or offending anyone....Far from my intentions, just an honest mistake! God Bless and have a great weekend
