B.A.P.
Has anyone read: The BAP Handbook?
I recently bought a copy of it, some of the information is a little funny. But there are a lot of good information about programs for childern as that mature (once i have a few) this information could be helpful.
If you have read this book: What type of BAP are you (if at all).
Do you know any Bogus BAPs (that's what the book calls them).

I haven't read the book, but I did see an article referring to it in Honey Magazine. They even had a quizlet on how to know if you're a BAP. I was a 5....so according to the authors I may be a BAP. It was a cute article. I'll probably peruse the book the next time I'm in Borders.

Oh, like the movie BAPS W/ HALLE BERRY. I thought it pretained to something about parenting.

Where is this article? I couldn't find it on www.honeymag.com, and it sounds interesting. Is it about BAPS as in the movie (ie, ghetto-fabulous), or the "Whitley Gilbert" type?
Just checking.

It's not about the movie, its's about the really live women. (the "Whitley Gilbert" type BAP.) They name several famous BAP.
The book also stresses that BAPs come in many different shapes, sizes, and hues. Being a BAP is all about the way you carry yourself.
It was the June/July 2001 issue of Honey. (I knew there was a reason I kept hundreds of old magaizines. Reference!) When I read about the survey and the book in Honey that's what made me interested in going to the book store to buy the book. They didn't have it in stock at my book store I had to order it.

I got the book today! It was ON TARGET. I saw myself in it, as well as most women I know. I'm probably either a "Betty" or a "Butterfly"...I'm from a small town, so I didn't have the same options as big-city BAPS have (like Jack & Jill). I know too many Bogus BAPS, not personally, but I've seen too many! I worked at a jewelry store for a few Christmases, and they came in droves to buy gold jewelry...on credit! I especially liked the list of famous BAPS.

This "Butterfly" is proud to say her name is on the acceptable names list as she waves her tube of MAC lipstick in the air
PS...Is it me or do the authors "borrow" a lot of the same information from "Our Kind of People?"

That's all everyone is talking about . I see this is going to be a summer read. The 'Honey' article was to funny. Why did I have all the ladies at work taking the quiz. Did I find out that we have a lot of Bogus Baps up in there. .

I bought the book about three weeks ago and got one of my line sisters to do the same.
As for what kind of BAP I am, I'm an amalgamation. My personal style and manner's Betty. My background, since my dad wasn't a professional, is Butterfly. My occupation, a middle-class journalist, is Boho.

The thing I most disliked about Our Kind is its focus on materialism... In the snooty booty club you ain't nothing if your grandma's grandpa wasn't a millionaire. I'm first generation college via a single parent and proud of it. Does BAPS list Black designers. We (Black people) have dress makers, clothing designers, and Essence featured a Sister who makes her own makeup. Stop being consumate consumers - What has Prada ever done for my people? If Baps is bs about making other people richer it can stay on the shelf.
