quick question! how do I get started?
I'll be attending UCLA this fall semester and I would love to participate in the recruitment! how do I go about doing that? I heard that it usually happens before school starts...so how do I sign-up/get the information I need?

Start by contacting the greek life office at UCLA ... here's their web site

Unless school starts extremely late at UCLA or their Panhellenic is planning on starting recruitment earlier in Fall 09, you won't have to worry about missing the boat since recruitment was September 22-28 in 2008.
I'd keep an eye on the Greek Life and/or Panhellenic website for registration, since the deadline might be earlier than the night before recruitment starts.
If you personally know any alumnae of sororities that have a chapter at UCLA, you might want to ask them to write you a rec. I know recs are important at USC, but not too sure about UCLA. Perhaps some UCLA alumnae or others familiar with UCLA will chime in.

UCLA does start very late (along with all our other quarter-based UCs). Last year instruction started on September 25th, so recruitment did start before school started.
That being said, I'm pretty sure they do provide information about Greek life over the summer, but contacting the Greek Life office directly will guarantee you are informed!
Recs are nice, but certainly not required. Also, I believe most (if not all) chapters take non-freshmen in their pledge classes.
All this information is based on my friends who have gone to UCLA and were in sororities there, plus my time at UCLA (not as an undergrad) doing an accounting program. If anyone here is a current student or an alum, please correct any of my misinformation!

Hey, I am not from UCLA but am familiar enough with their recruitment to answer a couple questions.
1. Recs are not necessarily needed, even for the chapters with the highest return rates, BUT they are common enough that they would definitely give you a leg up. I'd definitely get them.
2. It used to be that pledge classes were primarily comprised of freshmen. But this year they started having an upperclassman quota, and all chapters took many upperclassmen. I do not know if they are returning to this type of recruitment, but if they stick with it upperclassmen should have similar odds...although I am not altogether sure if it is one of those things where sophomores are viewed as more desirable as juniors who are viewed as more desirable as seniors, or if there is a separate quota for each grade, or whatever.
