Hi Everyone
I am new here to GreekChat. I just wanted to say that I am enjoying reading about everyone's rush experiences and of course all of the wonderful advice you are giving us. I am a sophomore at a college in the Midwest (I don't want to say which one yet because I noticed a few people on here go there). I formal rushed my freshman year but was cut from all of the houses I was truly interested in. Now I realize why; I was clueless as to what Greek life was all about. When the sisters rushing me would ask questions like why do you want to joing a sorority, I answered with superficial reasons like I heard it was a great way to meet people. Now I know it is more about sisterhood, scholorship and philanthropy.
I still want to be part of Greek life, I regretted it all of last year and the beginning of this year. So I have decided that I am going to do informal rush this year. I know it may be difficult, for I am a sophomore and do not currently know many sorority girls. But I really feel that I have a lot to give to a chapter. Our informal rush doesn't start until after winter break, I think. So until then I'm going to absorb all of the great information and advice you have for me. Thanks!
Lisa

One of the sororities on my campus that I am extremely interested in does some kind of 5k event for their philanthropy - it is open not only to other geek houses, but all students on campus and the public. Do you think this would be a good way for me to start getting to know the girls in that sorority? Should I do it or would that look odd?

You make some very good points, Tibi.
I say if you want to participate, go for it. Even if you don't meet the sisters, but only get to observe them doing community service, I am sure the 5K is for a good cause (?). If you really want to do it, grab a friend and go for it!

I agree with them also. If you enjoy running or walking whichever it is Then yes do go for it! Not only will you have a blast and feel go about yourself for doing something greatfor the community but you may meet some awesome people wether they be sisters or not! So go for it and have a great time!

as they say, "it's a Midwest thang, ya'll, ain't got a clue!"
Yes....bringing things to new neighbors is some sort of tradition in the Midwest. Why? I have no damn clue, but it tends to ba annoying at times.

Blaine, you're from the midwest.
You'd LOVE it if you moved in next to me and I brought you food.

I think you mean Greek houses?
Teasing aside, I think the 5K event sounds like a perfect opportunity to get to know the girls in the sorority that you're interested in! You go get 'em!!
