And at the U. of Florida, the April 12 '05 Alligator online reports on an"unregistered party" thrown by SAE last month -- police reports indicating around 200 or so non-members (and presumably 100 or so members) present. The fraternity is expected to receive sanctions.

Big parties, especially "open" ones, seem to carry a lot of potential for risk management problems. Yet it's apparent that at some schools there's almost an expectation that fraternities will essentially provide opportunities for pretty much anybody to enter and drink/socialize several nights a week. Convincing belligerent or out-of-control students or "friends" or randoms to leave too often results in fights, police calls, or worse (serious injuries, occasional gunplay, etc.).
