I have read this thread and re-read it and looked once more at the original post and the first page. I still don't know what it is that you want to know? What has not already been answered? Why is this thread continued? Other questions were posted during the course of this thread that moved me to answer, so I'll try.

Anyway, how do black folks know which BGLO to join from the beginning if it's not based on family/friends pressure or stereotypes? Supposedly you can't rush every BGLO or people will get upset and that info isn't on a website.

No, you can't rush every BGLO but you can RESEARCH every BGLO. I know this because I did this. I did this way before the age of the internet and expressing interest over the internet. I am one of those "black folk" who didn't know which BGLO to join cause I didn't have no family/friends/nor peer pressure to help me decide. I am the first in my family to go to college and didn't have a clue as to what a sorority is BGLO or non-BGLO. It was a foreign word to me. I looked at the non-BGLO sororities that my white friends belonged to (Delta Gamma, Tri-Delt). I liked their philanthropies. I TALKED to them. I heard that there were Black sororities. I did my research. This consisted of a few things like visiting the LIBRARY (already mentioned in previous posts). I contacted national headquarters and asked if they would be so kind to send me any info they had. They graciously replied. This helped me a lot. Even if I hadn't been confident enough to actually venture out and attend their events and community service projects and eventually became a member I STILL would have what you would call a very EDUCATED understanding about each of the FABULOUS four and the service we do. And I got it on my own!! I wasn't spoon-fed info over the internet!

They went and read lots of books at the library.

Some folks say that the chapter matters and then there are others on here talking about how you know what you want to do before you even know the chapter. And instead of trying to provide an answer if someone does know it, they say research it. Big Catch 22.

And no, it's not a big catch-22. Some people actually do know what they want for whatever reason. Someone mentioned the man who said he would die before he let his daughter pledge.... well that is a good example of a non-informed and ignorant choice. I could say the same thing about my daughter -- "she better be my Sorhor one day, or else, LOL". I can say this because I have raised her around Sigma Gamma Rho so she knows Sigma Gamma Rho. And yes, like you said the chapter does matter. It's still not A CATCH 22. If my daughter came home from college and said that she wasn't feeling the SGRho chapter and she was looking at another sorority, I would respect that but I would also inform her that one chapter does not represent the whole sorority.

I am posting this because this thread is highly irritating to me. I am older than most people on Greek chat which is why I don't do a lot of posting even though I have been on here for about 5 years now. My opinion is that most of you who have these questions about us are "stuck" somewhere mentally. Stop creating arguments with yourselves. This forum is supposed to be informative and fun or at least it was at one time.
