No one will explain things to you. If you are sincerely interested, go to the websites and read. You will learn all that you are allowed to know. If the answers to your questions aren't there, it's members only. I am surprised that people don't understand this. I did this years ago and learned a lot.

I have to disagree. I've yet to see a website that gives a good picture of the culture of NPHC orgs, my National website included (
http://www.pbs1914.org). Your best bet to get the information you're looking for is to interact with NPHC greeks in person. You will have to go to a number of sources to get the entire picture.
If you talk to enough greeks, you'll discover some things that you could never read in a book. You'll learn about Minerva, doves, or sphinxes, or poodles, etc.
Get the books that have been recommended. In search of sisterhood is particularly good. I found the conflict between collegiate and alumnae members particularly interesting. This conflict is part of all NPHC orgs, even today. It also talks about what black greeks were doing back in the day. What were they looking for in new members.
Take what you get from this site with a grain of salt. Many NPHC greeks are very tight-lipped, and understandably so. However, not all NPHC greeks are so tight-lipped. Also, alot of the NPHC greeks here were spawned from KAZO. I love KAZO, but it reflects only a portion of the NPHC greek culture.
