SHFox, I'm glad to see you're considering becoming part of the Greek world! But...being part of a local doesn't give the members the right to haze a pledge in any way, physical or mental. Most state laws prohibit the hazing of new members in any manner.
If your college permits this, the administration is putting itself--and the Greeks are doing likewise to themselves--at great legal risk. I agree that classifying certain actions as hazing (such as wearing pledge ribbons or going on non-embarrassing treasure hunts) is going overboard but what you and I think doesn't matter; it's what state law says that does.
And yes, it's still considered hazing if the pledge claims he or she doesn't mind.
