wow-your Dr. Appts are less than 100$?
Health care for pets is getting more expensive. Veterinarians are tired of living in poverty for the amount of education we obtain. Plus, people are expecting better care which includes better equipment that can be mucho grande $$$. Our latest CBC machine cost my boss 25,000. A CT machine is 200,000 (my clinic does not have this machine but there are 2 specialty clinics in town that do). We do not get any help from the government or any insurance companies. To pay for these machines we have to raise our prices. My best advice is to save at least 100$ per month for your pet's health care. Most people I see at the EC spend at last 500-600 for one visit (and that is generally a non complicated problem).
I love pugs as well and if I were to get a dog I might consider this breed (only from a rescue organization though, I would never buy a dog). Other health problems I see are portosystemic shunts (which can be 2000-5000$ to repair), stenotic nares-about 600 to repair may be less depending on who does the procedure. And yes, proptosed eyes or non healing corneal ulcers (they tend to keep the ophthalmologist in business.)
