Of the rest of the Farmville Four, ZTA did the same thing (i.e. closed their Alpha to join NPC). Tri-Sigma & ASA did not.
When NPC began, the founding sororities chose that it would be composed entirely of chapters chartered at 4 year colleges - anything that wasn't at a 4 year college had to go. For some sororities, that included their Alpha chapter.
It's probably best that it was done that way, since things flow both ways and if they would have let those chapters in, it would have been troublesome if (for example) there were women at Farmville wanting to start a KKG chapter.
