Police were trying to determine what caused the crash that killed a 28-year-old Memphis man early Wednesday at Shelby Drive and Interstate 55.

Between 12:45 p.m. and 1 a.m. a 2003 Jeep Cherokee driven by Robert Foster went off the ramp leading from I-55 to eastbound Shelby Drive lanes.

The Jeep struck two trees, then came to rest after striking a third, police said.

Foster, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was killed immediately.

There were no witnesses to the crash, said Memphis Police spokesman Sgt. Vince Higgins.. [/B]
