Amy

Hey guys,

This part of the forum has been inactive lately, but I just wanted to talk about Amy.

I am currently the vice president of Kappa Phi Delta Sorority (100 year old local). This incident occured my freshman year at IIT.

Although we had only just gotten to school 2 months previous, I had gotten to know Amy farely well. She was really sweet and always looking after everyone. That day, I talked to Amy in the bathroom of our residence hall. She was feeling kinda sick and had been taking a nap. Later that night, we both headed over to visit our boyfriends at the Pi Kapps. Amy was dating one of their freshman at the time, and mid-way through the evening, she went into his room to lie down. I went back to my dorm room later that night, but was awakened by the sirens outside my window. My friend woke me up and told me what was going on. Amy had stopped breathing.

Although this death was not alcohol related, the fraternity was threatened to be closed down. Media assumed it was because of a night of binge drinking and rumors spread fast.

Today, this incident is rarely acknowledged by the school. When the one year anniversary of her passing came up, only a few of her friends bothered to light a candle.

Greek life on our campus is small, informal, but extremely close-knit. This was something that affected us all deeply, and reprecussions are still being felt today.

Just wanted to set things straight.
