Very true... ELCs aren't some "white knight" that rides in a sets everything right - they are there to push the chapter in the right direction, and ultimately it is the chapter that must heal/fix/improve itself.
However I also understand that ELCs can get burnt-out, just as an active can... but when one active isn't on top of his game it doesn't really have that much of an impact compared to an ELC thats burnt out.
My arguement about the Calgary colony was that an ELC wouldn't have "saved the day" with a visit - although he may have helped I don't think a visit would have helped get the numbers needed.
I do know that the guys there are still interested - and some are dedicated to making a go again soon; they just need to have the support and will to make it... and if my friend Adam decides to pursue his medical degree there I'll be sure to visit and lend what support/advice I can.
If I hear more - my brother's old rommie is a newly minted prof. there - I'll be sure to pass it on to the board.
