In reponse to looking into expanding at Emory. That is really cool you want to do this and I have always wondered whether our chapter has ever had a prescence at this prestigious school.
We had a chapter there until the late 30's but due to what I believe was low membership we left.
Emory is a prestigious university and it would be great to have a chapter there but right now is not the time. Number one there are already many fraternities that have been on a long waiting list to start a chapter there because they want to be on the campus of a notorious private school in a high traffic area (atl). Number 2 their Greek administration has become very strict and kicked three chapters off and one in the past month (Pike) for very questionable reasons. Number three it is extremely competitive and without a house it would be very hard for a chapter to be successful and get quality members at this school because it is so small. A lot of tradition at emory and many of the chapters there have a very long historical prescence on this campus. Its like trying to expand at UVA or Ole Miss, positive results is not something that is likely because of the history of other chapters there and INTENSE COMPETITION.
Anyway, that is just my bit of info on this situation and it looks like our fraternity is talking about expansion efforts at Duke which would personally be more appealing to me because I live close to that campus but I do not think that would be a great idea either. P.S. if you do go to ATL, Georgia Tech has a very good chapter and you should stop by and meet some of those guys.
