I do have to say that I was kind of insulted that on one of the forms at the hospital, they had her race listed as white without even asking...I realize they did that because I'm white, but it's still presumtious as she could be (and is) mestizo.
Yes, I know this is an old topic, but I just thought i'd add my two cents.

AlphaFrog, are you White or are you Native American? Because the term Mestizo means someone who is a cross between a Mexican/Hispanic and a Native American. Mestizos are not crosses between an anglo person and a mexican person.

I prefer being called Hispanic. I don't like "Latina" because I am not Latin. I'm Mexican-American. A lot of mexicans (that I know of) also don't like being called Latino or Latina. Just call me Mexican. Latina is just something people used to distinguish "Hispanic" people, but I don't understand why people just don't use Hispanic. All Hispanics are Spanish also, because we all originated from Spain. All the spaniards came down to this side and colonized/reproduced with many native people. But yeah.
