My first experience in discovering bros outside of the typical spots (on campus) came when I was an undergrad, circa 1975. I went to Lake Geneva, WI for a day w/my folks, my sister and a family friend. As usual, I was wearing a letter shirt.

When we approached the dock where they house the tour boats, I was greeted by another 'Chop who was disembarking from HIS tour w/his parents. He was from Western Illinois, a chapter I visited when we had a conclave there a year earlier.

I still wear letters around town, especially when going to some sporting event because they tend to attract attention. Also, I believe LCA's like to take the El (elevated trains) down to Cub games, because I seem to meet somebody almost every time I go to Clark & Addison.

At one Cub game in 2003, Illinois State's current alumni president was selected as ISU's Alumni Volunteer of the Year. His reward was the honor of throwing the first pitch from the mound prior to the game. Since I'm the BOAA's historian, I got to go down to the field and take his photo for the newsletter.

While standing on the field w/my back to the box seats, I heard somebody say, "Lambda Chi? Hell, I'M a Lambda Chi, too!". Turns out he was a Kansas State alum. You never know where we'll show up, eh?

As a sidebar comment, it's sad that some of our younger members are dissuaded from wearing Greek letter apparel because it targets them. I've heard that many Greek Life advisors tell their chapters to avoid having lettered shirts because they'll get into trouble w/the cops. It's automatically assumed in some college towns that fraternity=trouble. Sounds kinda like racial profiling to me...
