Roleplaying is fun. It's very inexpensive, and a good way to just hang out with your friends.
If you get too into it, however, it's a bad thing. Just like you don't want your life to revolve around work, you don't want it to revolve around gaming.
LARPing, Live Action Role Playing, is one of the ways that you can get too into it. As are the conventions...
I however don't like D&D, though Ksir does. I run White Wolf systems, mostly.
There is nothing wrong with role playing, it is definately better than Everquest where you stare at your computer and only interact with other people through that, or vopnsole games where you don't interect with other people at all.
