Okay after hearing all of the cartilage horror stories, I have decided that I am the luckiest person around! I have two small silver hoops in my left ear carilage, and they were both done with a safety pin. One of my sisters did them and she dissenfected everything with alcohol. I have had absolutely no problems with either one, even sleeping on them. They have never been infected, and I have had them for about four months. I know it wasn't exactly the safest thing in the world, but it was one of those spur of the moment things with a little influence of some beverage

The only other peircing I have besides my ears is my tongue (done professionally) it never swelled, and I had it done the day before Thanksgiving and still ate. I guess I am just really lucky!
