Haha, I think we set a new record for "smiley eye-rolls" in this thread.

Overall I think the speech was good - he's not that great of a public speaker, and certainly much better off-the-cuff than he is in cases like last night.

You can't really argue with his ability to bring out emotion though, and last night was a case of that.

I too was surprised by the boos; I often forget how rowdy the State of the Union can get, and I think that's one of the reasons I like it so much. It's as close as we get to the old days when Congressmen were challenging each other to duels.

He didn't say as much on Social Security as I thought he'd say, although I knew there would be a loud response, one way or the other.

The moment where the soldier's parents and the Iraqi woman hugged was the moment I'll remember. Unreal moment.
