I was the first person in 8th (age 13) grade to have my hair highlighted.
It was actually my mom who talked me into it! Strangely, I caught hell from a lot of my classmates at first.
My hair color was almost black, I had honey brown highlights. She didn't really care how light, but she suggested not going any lighter than honey brown.
