they're fairly popular in brooklyn actually. i know i have smoked from a hookah with guys from two different fraternities and one of the kosher restaurants near me has a hookah bar in the back. probably because they are apparently popular in Israel they have caught on with some of the Jewish crowd in Brooklyn
