I think this thread is very interesting, especially because I already own most of the items listed. I chose the items because I liked them, not because they are "essential" to a sorority girl. I've never thought of myself as a typical sorority girl, and definitely NOT in reference to my particular group. Maybe I am, but that's not all bad. Ladies who have written before me, I salute you, because you have good taste, down to the Tiffany Atlas ring, but my bracelet has the round tag, because I hate the heart!!!
And to respond specifically to Alpha Chi Girl...who cares if Non-Greeks think we're shallow, superficial snobs? They already think we are and it's just like high school all over again. They can't be us or don't want to be us, but they won't let us be and put us up on pedestals, yet are quick to take a hammer to that pedestal the minute a Greek falters.
Over Holiday break 1998, I did seasonal work at my hometown mall and reconnected with a highschool classmate who never gave two looks to me way back when (and is also a non-Greek). But the minute I said I was a Delta Zeta, her jaw dropped and she was my best buddy for the rest of the Holiday season. Funny, she couldn't remember my name for four years of high school.
On the flip side, a lot of my good, old friends looked at me in a different light after they found out I had gone Greek.
