You would think people would get the irony of that! But they don't.
I know a few girls from my hometown who moved here out of college thinking they'd be able to live a "Sex and the City" lifestyle on a publisher's assistant's (or gallery assistant or whatever) salary. Most thought they'd be able to live in their very own apartment on the Upper East Side
(just like Carrie!), but they quickly realized that it was a 3-bedroom apartment share in Queens for them. Their parents were helping them out a little, but not enough for them to be able to take cabs everywhere, eat out all the time, go out to the trendiest bars four nights a week,
and buy designer bags twice a season. Eventually, checks started to bounce. Cell phones got turned off. These aspiring Carrie Bradshaws ended up going home six months after being here because they didn't have a clue.
It's sad, really.
