Hey- Rodeo and 3rd St Promenade and Main Street in Venice are all good places to shop. Colorado Bl in Old Town Pasadena is nice too.
Eat: these fall in the pricey category but are amazing and quite the LA scene: Ago, the Little Door, Lucques, Asia De Cuba, Ivy--either at the shore or in beverly hills. All will require reservations.
As far as less expensive (but still LA prices, of course) eateries: Sushi Roku --I think the one on 3rd in West Hollywood is better than the one in Santa Monica. Caffe Luna on Melrose--open til 4am. Cafe 8 1/2 on Robertson--quiet, not too pricey-best penne vodka.

La Poubelle on Franklin.
Farmers Market on Fairfax is fun on the weekends when they have karoke. I personally hate karoke, but not at Farmer's Market--contact them to see if its on on the weekend you are in LA
Bars/Clubs: SkyBar, Dominics, Guys, Deep (almost impossible to get in), James Beach, Bar Marmont, Lola's, The Standard--that's all I can think of right now.
If I think of more or if you have questions, let me know.
