My school has done partially structured spring recruitment for the sororities (usually 5-8 out of the 11 on campus) that have spaces during the past few years. It's always worked really well for us, so I'm glad that other sororities are using the approach. It allows for PNMs to be exposed to as many houses as possible in order for them to find the best fit (or just be introduced to some of the sororities with the intent to rush "for real" next fall). The more laid-back approach appealed to girls who wouldn't necessarily go through fall rush, but might not have been aware of the option to COB. And in my opinion, it was much less stress than either formal rush or COB for the sorority women -- no crazy decorations and skits and bumping routines to worry about, but you didn't have to stress about some new COB event every week and getting another girl to hang around until the next pledge period either.
As you can see, I'm a big fan of partially structured . . . ;-)
