Phen-Phen is a perscription drug. One part Phentramine (speed) and one part fenfleuramine (sp) an appetite supressant I believe. The second part of it caused the heart problems. They still prescribe the speed part.
Xenadrine is an ephedrine caffeine combination, using natural source material.
Epherine has been much maligned recently in the media. But unless you have a serious heart condition or bad asthma it won't bother you.
The ephedrine and caffeine has been shown in clinical studies to enhance fat loss. If you want to knwo all the science behind it . . . I'll go into it later. *yawn* Tired now.
Simple ways to think of weight loss.
Real definition of diet: What you take in your body.
What people think it means: What they take into their bodies when trying to lose weight.
Important difference. Usually people "diet" to lose the weight their "normal diet" put on them. And then go back onto that "normal diet" and wonder why they gain the weight back . . . I despair!
"Silly Rabbits, tricks are for kids!"
diet times lifestyle equals appearance.
Lifestyle is your basic activity level, and sleep patterns . . . If you are very active and sleep correctly, you can get away with a better diet. Lifestyle has a more powerful effect on appearance than diet.
So, pick what you want to look like and adjust your lifestyle and diet to match that look . . . Don't change diet and lifestyle to look better, and expect to keep that look if you revert to the pattern that made you out of shape to begin with!
I'll probably post something on training and diet manipulation later . . . I've read a lot of the posts on training and will say they are well intentioned but many don't show a scientific appreciation of correct training and diet manipulation.
As far as the low carb thing . . . people look at Atkins or its variations (the diet has been around for a long time before him) as a diet to lose weight . . . Which it is kind of. What it is really, is a diet that recognizes that your body's inability to process carbs very well makes you fatter than you would be otherwise . . . its a subtle but important distinction. Because it what it shows is that if you want to keep the weight off you HAVE to lower the carbs to below the level you were eating before.
