Maybe this is just because I'm a carb-addict, but I don't believe that those diets work long term.
I've found the best thing overall is eating most foods in moderation. If you want cake, eat half of what you normally would. Don't go whole hog, but don't make yourself feel badly about not being able to have any. I also find its helpful to drink water. If you can get off soft drinks, try to do so. They just make you bloated and puffy. That combined with 30 min on the treadmill every day helped me lose my freshman 15
