That's because of all of the folks from WV who come to school there. In WV, they teach the "three R's", Readin'/Ritin'/and Route 33 (the road from Huntington to Columbus.
Just kidding. It's really true that there are "hicks" in every state, and that's particularly true because of the US society being so mobile.
My late Mom used to love to describe herself as a Southern Ohio born "hillbilly."
