My 21st was on Thanksgiving!!! So my first legal drink was wine with dinner at home!!! Heck, I'd been doing that since I was 4!!
On the Saturday after T'giving, my then-boyfriend (now husband) took me to a restaurant that has over 100 beers on tap and serves beer by the yard. He wanted to treat me to a yard. We tried some samplers to decide what our yards would be, and the waiter didn't card us. But, when you order a yard or half yard, they take your ID as collateral - the glasses are very fragile and very expensive (around $60) and they want to make sure you pay for it if you break it. Well, of course the waiter saw the big red "Under 21" on my ID, that it was expired, and that it was out of state!
But he took it anyway, and said "Happy Birthday - if I'd known I'd have carded you right off!"
For the record, the yard was Harpoon IPA - still one of my all time favorites
AlphaSigLana - if you have a non-expired passport, carry that. Show your expired DL; if they won't take that, then whip out the passport.
