Clearly, that was not sitting well with me at all. Secondly, I kept thinking "Four Legs Good, Two Legs Back"...Amistad and Animal Farm. There were a few niggling holes in the story that kept bothering me as well.
I can see your "wrinkle" theory happening too. I think mine might be more along the lines of the original though, at least as far as Thade getting in his pod and going to earth. It could be a bit farfetched that he figured out how to use it, but they never explained how they flew the spaceship in "Escape From the Planet of the Apes" At least I don't think they did...
